“Getting to know your way around in a city or a country village, on foot or by public transport, gives you a great sense of independence and freedom.” Staying long enough in each place, to settle into your accommodation and unpack, get to be recognized in the local coffee bar, and be brave enough to try a few words of a new language, really adds so much value to a holiday. It’s fun pretending to be a local, and whenever you return on another trip, you’ll feel ‘at home’ and familiar, because you’ve spent time getting to know the place.
“Many Australians would love to travel to Europe and Britain, but don’t feel confident enough to set off or do the planning by themselves. My aim in setting up www.bonvoyage.net.au is to encourage people to take the first step, and teach them to be independent travellers, either by joining my small group tours [max 6 / 7 people, singles welcome, or having a detailed itinerary planned for them to follow.”
